Patchwork Garden – Teaching!

Darn near perfect.

That’s how my recent trip to New York state was.

I had been invited by Patchwork Garden Quilt Shop in East Amherst to spend four days with them as a special event for their book club.  And I don’t mind telling you, it was an absolute pleasure to have had this opportunity.

The first two days I presented trunk shows, mainly focused on my latest book, Twice as Nice.

Both of these were sold out and at one point, before it started, I actually recorded the buzz these women were creating with their excitement to share with my husband when I got home.   I must say their energy was catchy.  🙂

At one point I noticed the line to check out was the whole length of the store and later it was shared that about 90 books were sold!  Because I was busy visiting I didn’t get a picture taken until the tail end of the line.

The next two days were spent teaching hands-on classes.  Because the shop was in the process of adding on, the classes were held offsite on Joan’s property.  I have one word for the setting…fabulous!

We worked on Split Pea Soup, from Twice as Nice the first day.  We spent some time learning the technique using the Clearly Perfect Angle where there isn’t any wasted fabric.  Too many times we end up throwing away the little trimmed triangles while making a flipped corner half- square triangle.  Of course, there is more detail in the book, but here is a diagram of how to use the 5/8″ seam guide to create an extra half-square triangle that is used in a bonus project.

The second day I taught the class called Beauty Bright Plus.  Not only did we create a bonus project but we learned about the easy mitered border technique found in my book, Just around the Corner.

Many, if not most, participants already used the Clearly Perfect Angles so we were able to move along quite quickly.  Of course, I am always pleased to see so many Berninas being used!

I always enjoy it when people bring along projects that they have made using my designs.   Here are a few for you to enjoy.

I’m going to take this moment to thank Helen.  She actually was the one who got the ball rolling for this visit.  Not only is she a joy to visit with, she is a very talented quilter!!  Thanks Helen!!

Now I’m going to share some of the charming and beautiful places I experienced.

One of the things that was so obvious to me was the quality of this outstanding store.   Patchwork Garden has a wide variety of fabric, fresh samples and a ton of classes that people are flocking to. The management and enthusiasm of the owners is something to behold.  And I know their customers would agree that Joan and Bev are what make things click.  You know,  I wouldn’t have to write any of this, but when one comes across a store like this, they need to be recognized and commended.  So….if you are in the Buffalo, NY area it is worth a stop!

I also need to send a warm thank you to Joan and her husband for their hospitality in sharing their spectacular part of the world with me.

Onto other things….

Hmmm, you’ve probably notice the postings are far and few between this summer.  I decided that we have such a short summer in Minnesota that I was going to devote more time to being appreciative of my home and family.

I have, however, been very busy working on new designs for patterns and magazines.  Although I can’t share too much, I’ve had the opportunity to work on projects with several other designers.  Watch for more information over the next couple of months, but just keep in mind: Terry Atkinson, Terri Degenkolb, Gudrun Erla and American Patchwork and Quilting!

Stay tuned!!!

Stay tuned!!!

Until we chat again,

Kari
