Vintage! Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks

I’m so honored and thankful to be taking part in another Quiltmaker’s 100 Block Blog Tour.  If this is your first visit to my site, welcome and take a look around.  If you have stopped by before, you will be finding some new things.

_1030005

My block is named Vintage (#735) and can found on page 41.  From the fabric to the applique design, there is nothing usual about this block for me.  But isn’t it fun to do something different once in awhile?

QMMS-Vintage Block

My inspiration was this fabulous fabric provided  by E.E.Schenck called Vintage Dry Goods.  It is by Daiwabo for the Cara Collection, so you know how rich and fabulous it was to work with.  I also wanted to do something asymmetrical.

Machine appliques

I actually have more of the machine applique pieces cut out and ready to make into a quilt.  However, I am having a hard time deciding on a setting.  I’d love to hear your opinions.

I really like old buttons, so I embellished the block with ones I found in my collection.  This picture shows the block with my buttons, which are  actually displayed in an antique bowl my grandmother used to make her homemade bread.  Just a hint of nostalgia….

One of my favorite things about this block is the corner with the angled spools. I think any 8″ pieced block could be substituted for the applique and use this fun corner to make your own block.

Now, the magazine writes all the directions the same, but you know, I hate drawing lines for any 45° angle.  So here’s a tip to save you tons of time,  use the Clearly Perfect Angles!  And you are visiting at a great time, because they have just been revised and now are even easier to use.

Cropped CPA groupingWhat’s new: Fabric Alignment Key;  needle positioning info right on the “cling“;  1/4″ from needle position line (great for helping sew on binding), and bolder lines.

Now for more fun. There are prizes to be had!

First of all, leave a comment below on which setting you think I should use and you have a chance to win one of three prizes.  Quiltmaker will be sending one of you a free issue of the magazine and I will send two more people the issue along with the new Clearly Perfect Angles!

Drawing prizes

AND, did you notice the Giveaway challenge at the back of the magazine?  You just learned one of the answers…. #1 = G.  🙂

The winners will be announced on Monday so stop back for another chat.   Enjoy the rest of the tour.
